A long silence was broken with the White House ceremony awarding the Medal of Honor to an American hero, retired Army Capt. Mike Rose.

It was a secret mission of the Viet Nam war. A four day hell of bullets and blood in which every member of the Special Forces team was wounded, some fatally, including the only medic on the team Capt Rose. Nonetheless, he doctored his comrades and even used his own body to shield his brothers in arms.

It was the survivors of that now-declassified mission of 1970 who stood with him for the ceremony....and his wife, children and grandchildren... of a quiet and true hero.
