A good signal from Houston City Council which is considering a major upgrade in traffic technology. What is that exactly? Signals. We are talking electronics and new signal detection stations that would give the most heavily traveled streets and directions more green light time…so the greatest number of cars can keep moving. By reasoning, that means cross traffic would sit at red lights longer, but it’s all about being able to go with the flow. Wouldn’t you love to see those short intersections underneath overpasses have more time, to get more than just 4 or 5 vehicles through? It’s just irritating watching drivers stopped dead in the cross-section, blocking traffic in all directions while the lights cycle too fast to get the heavy traffic through. With better signals maybe rush hour will live up to its name.
