RESTING PLACE

My friend Maryann Hoffer was laid to rest yesterday.  The funeral was attended by hundreds, from far and wide, and included so many Houston luminaries.  The name Hoffer is of the furniture company of long-standing here, and Maryann added luster to it with her involvement in business, social and charity functions that will make her a lasting memory.

It seemed just right to me, her choice of Glenwood Cemetery.  It is the historic cemetery of Houston, the choice of notables that date back to the city’s founders and other citizens of the Republic of Texas, and names that have followed like Howard Hughes, wildcatter Glen McCarthy,  to many more to name. A look at the website doesn’t do justice to the beauty and peace of Glenwood with it’s spreading oaks and rolling berms just off Washington Avenue.
