The greenies like those R’s of renewing and recycling and repurposing and why not if the results work.

But here’s one from a couple of best friends in the Bay Area, that’s San Francisco, who’ve taken a repurposing to an efficient, tasty and profitable result.

They produce an energy bar under the name of “Regrained” and their brilliance is in using the spent grains from beer production.  These grains are still high in fiber and protein and the fledgling company is spinning it into eating profit.  Two products so far: a Honey Cinnamon IPA bar and Coffee Chocolate Stout.  (or “stite” as an Irish bartender friend used to say).

The US Department of Agriculture is taking note.  It’s a big deal to turn food waste into healthy eating. The marketing is pretty smart too.  Who wouldn’t take a second look at a bar labeled “EAT BEER”.
