To be a Texan is not the same thing as living in other states. Texans carry an ingrained sense of independence born of struggle. A realism, coupled with optimism, that work and sweat are rewarded and, in some way, the reward itself. There is great belief and support in the individual, especially one who fails, but gets up again. Perseveres. Texans are loyal...to their friends and to Texas and its history.
So this week we mark again the birth of the Republic of Texas 181 years ago....Texas Independence Day, the siege of the Alamo and the heroes who fell, but, searing a Texas brand of defiance and ultimate victory that remains our state consciousness today.
So if you are here, embrace it all, be proud...to be a Texan is no small thing.
