TEXAS MEDALS

The Texas Medal of Arts 2017 are awarded this week in Austin and it will be another stunning display of and honor to Texas artistic talent and their supporters.

With Houston's arts district one of the leading in the nation, it's no surprise that many of the medal recipients hail from here.

Like gospel star Yolanda Adams, prima ballerina Lauren Anderson, tv actress Jacklyn Smith, Broadway star Rene Elise Goldsberry, arts patron Lynn Wyatt, and the Lifetime Achievement recipient, singer and actor Kenny Rogers. The awards program itself is hosted by another Houstonian and dancer and actress Debbie Allen.

Yes, Kris Kristofferson of Corpus Christi and other talents from other Texas cities are fellow recipients. But it's a pretty big sweep by Houston's own in this year's Texas Medal of the Arts Awards.
