If you've got it, fly it...especially now. The Lone Star flag of Texas is marking its birthday January 25th. It was adopted by the Republic of Texas under President Mirabeau B Lamar in 1839.
a proud and good looking flag, don't you think? Wisely kept as our state flag when Texas joined the union in 1845.
I fly it almost year round, bringing it in during the Christmas season or as last weekend when the winds threatened to whip it to shreds.
But now is the time to let the Lone Star fly, on its birthday and as we approach Texas Independence Day and the observance of the historic events of Goliad, Gonzales, the Alamo and San Jacinto.
