OPERATION STORMWATCH: 2 Tornadoes Leave Extensive Damage In Wharton County

The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed that not one, but two tornadoes, an EF-1 and an EF-0 touched down in Wharton County early this morning, leaving behind extensive damage.

According to news reports, an EF-1 tornado with winds up to 100 mph touched down around 3 a.m. behind an apartment complex northeast of the city of Wharton. That tornado traveled east across County Road 166, County Road 133, and County Road 128.

The second tornado, reportedly an EF-0 with winds up to 75 mph, touched down near Burr in east Wharton County around 3:20 a.m. The NWS said that tornado caused minor tree damage along its path as it moved westward over County Road 117.

Meanwhile, a Flood Watch remains in effect through 7 p.m. Thursday as southeast Texas braces for another round of heavy storms.

Since Monday, most of the region has seen 1 to 3 inches of rain, but with the soil now fully saturated, additional rainfall will fall as runoff.

Between now and Thursday evening, another 2 to 4 inches is expected, with totals over 6 inches. Forecasters say the main line of storms will likely hit College Station between 5 and 8 a.m. and push into central Houston between 8 a.m. and noon. Flooding remains the top concern, though isolated hail and damaging winds are also possible.

Officials urge residents to plan for travel delays and stay weather-aware as this high-impact storm system moves through. You can track the radar and power outages by clicking on OPERATION STORMWATCH.
