The Democrats have been losing steam in Texas for the last four years, as they continue going further to the Left. In the last few years, we have seen two high level Democrat Texas politicians swing the other way and flip to the GOP. Former Congresswoman Mayra Flores did it last year, and Houston area State Representative Shawn Thierry flipped this year to the GOP, after being a lifelong Democrat. Now, a third domino has fallen in the game.

Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina last week announced his is switch from the Democrat party to the Republican party. One time, maybe it is an outlier. Two times is a pattern. But three flips in the last couple of years? That signifies something deeper. It shows there is a cataclysmic shift happening within the Left, where many people are no longer feeling the party upholds their own values. It is not just in Texas, either.

State Rep. Thierry, who flipped this year, says people are seeing through the facade the Democrats have built, and want common sense back in politics.

"They are saying enough is enough and choosing a path that focuses more on kitchen table issues and protecting children," she says. The Republican party is, more and more every day, becoming the home for those who are tired of the far-Left agenda."

Judge Tijerina's reasoning was the same. He said in a recent interview that he has seen the party go too far left and no longer uphold his values.

It has not just been politicians flipping. In the 2024 election, the usual Blue stronghold of the Rio Grande Valley went almost entirely Red. In all, 14 of the 18 counties within 20 miles of the border voted for Donald Trump. By comparison, he only won 29 percent of that entire area back in 2016.

Inexplicably, after losing ground here in Texas and all over the country, Democrats have doubled down on their agenda. They want to escalate their ideology even further, after getting a clear mandate from the people that they do not agree. That is another big factor in why we might see even more flips.

"They refuse to do an internal assessment...they will continue staying committed to the 'progressive abyss,' they are so deep in...I do not know if they know how to dig their way out," says Rep. Thierry.

Tijerina's Webb County specifically saw a 50-percentage point swing for Trump, the fourth largest nationally. It is clear that even the staunchest Liberal areas are not even on board with the new wave of Leftist progressive.

But there is a catch to this. As more people flip, it becomes somewhat dangerous. Mostly because with all the winning the GOP has been doing, it can appear 'trendy' to join them. Especially for people who see being Republican as their best chance to continue holding power.

"I hope they walk the walk and not just talk the talk...it is not easy, but we have to walk in truth, and that is what I will continue doing," Rep. Thierry says.

She adds that she hears from many people daily who want to switch parties but are afraid of the backlash for doing so.
