This is what Democrat control of Harris County looks like.
The two men arrested for the murder of Harris County Pct. 3 Deputy Omar Ursin were free on bond in two separate murder cases.
20-year-old Jayland Womack was granted a low bond by Harris County criminal court judge Greg Glass for a 2021 murder charge.
Investigators say Womack shot and killed 19-year-old Devin Wood outside his NE Harris County home during a robbery.
Prosecutors asked for a $200,000 bond, but he was released on a bond of just $35,000.
Then in December, Womack violated his bond, yet Judge Glass allowed him to released again on a low bond.
Also, arrested for Deputy Ursin’s murder was 20-year-old Ahsim Taylor Jr.
Taylor was out on a $75,000 bond set by Harris County Criminal District Court Judge Amy Martin for a separate murder charge at the time Ursin was killed. He was ordered to wear a GPS ankle monitor.
Precinct 3 Constable Sherman Eagleton tells ABC13:
"When you let somebody out on bond for murder and put an ankle monitor on them, that ankle monitor is not going to stop them from killing someone else.”
Both Martin and Glass lost their primary elections and will no longer be on the bench in January.
Doug Griffith, President of the Houston Police Officer’s Union tells ABC13, “they both need to step down immediately and move on. We have to find some way to fix this."
