Mayor Turner Defends Gun Buyback Scheme, Saying Criminals Need $50

A man who went viral on social media after saying his sold 62 3D printed “ghost guns” at Mayor Sylvester Turner’s gun buyback event speaks to Fox 26, telling them the “goal was not personal profit, but to send [Houston leaders] a message about spending $1 million tax dollars on something that has no evidence of any effect on crime..."

The man says each gun cost him about $3 to produce and he made about $2,900 off the city but he tells Fox 26 his ultimate goal is to have the city, "Pay fair prices [at gun buyback events], use private donations rather than tax dollars, and don’t destroy historic guns."

Mayor Turner responds to the embarrassment by saying that these type of 3D printed “ghost guns” will not be accepted at future events.

Fox 26’s Matthew Seedorff pressed Mayor Turner on whether he truly believed that criminals would turn in their guns at these buyback events and Turner said they would because “they may need $50 for whatever reason. Criminals don’t always think things through”.
