Wanted Houston Man Was Freed On Bond Of Just $40,000 For Murder

Another infuriating story from Fox 26’s Randy Wallace about liberal judges in Harris County freeing violent criminals on low bond.

Johnathan Robert Coffee, 28, has a lengthy criminal record including numerous guns charges in the state of Louisiana.

Here in Houston he was arrested and charged with the 2020 murder of Andrew Glover.

Investigators say Glover was shot in the head by Coffee.

Despite his lengthy criminal record and latest murder charge,  232nd Criminal District Court Judge Josh Hill set Coffee's bond for murder at just $40,000.

That’s right, $40,000 for murder. So for just a couple thousand dollars, Coffee was freed.

Crime Stoppers Andy Kahan says "I've been doing this a long time and I've not seen a bond that low for murder. 50,000 is usually the lowest I've seen, but $40,000 for a habitual repeat violent felon. I was floored”.

Now Coffee is a wanted man after cutting off his ankle monitor.

After Coffee cut off his ankle monitor, Judge Hill waited a month to issue an arrest warrant.

Kahan added, "why it took over a month to issue a warrant with his criminal history and criminal past is beyond my comprehension.”
