Man Free On Bond, Accidentally Shoots Himself During Robbery Attempt

Carlos Marquez, 29, is free on bond out of Donley County for aggravated assault on a peace officer and evading arrest.

Last week, Marquez tried to rob a man on the Katy Freeway and ended up accidentally shooting himself in the head.

According to the witness, Carlos Marquez, 29, slammed on his brakes and blocked two drivers at two separate times on the Katy freeway.

The witness says Marques ended up stopping a vehicle with a gun in his hand.

The second driver left the vehicle and the two were standing on the side of the freeway. A witness shot cell phone video of the confrontation.

Marquez allegedly fired two shots at the victim and, when the victim fought back, the suspect fired a third shot, which caused injury to his own head.

Several witnesses wrestled with Marquez until officers arrived at the scene. Marquez was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in stable condition.

Investigators said the handgun Marquez had in his possession was stolen out of Houston. He has since been charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
