Washington DC Will Fine Resident $500 For Using Gas Powered Leaf Blowers

Crime in the District of Columbia is soaring, they’ve got a massive problem with teenagers carjacking folks, so it makes sense that the Democrat machine running the city have found the true culprits – citizens using gas powered leaf blowers.

No need to go after the criminals when you can make criminals out of everyday folks.

The liberal supermajority on city council passed a ban on gas-powered leaf blowers that was approved in 2018 which took effect in the New Year.

The Washington Post reports:

"The ban on gas-powered blowers comes with a potential $500 fine for violators, the culmination of a fight that began in 2016 against the notorious polluters, which can be as loud as heavy traffic and cause health problems for people who breathe their fumes.”

Reason.com’s Christian Britschgi points out how battery powered leaf blowers are inferior and further burden businesses like landscape companies.

He writes:

A D.C. city government report notes that most battery-powered leaf blowers can only operate for about 10–15 minutes at full power (or an hour at lower-power settings) and that corded leaf blowers often lacked the range needed for commercial-scale landscaping.
"While excellent for homeowner use, electric-powered blowers on the market today do not have sufficient power or duration to replace gasoline engines for professional use," Bob Mann, a representative of National Association of Landscape Professionals, told the D.C. city council when it was considering its ban.
In addition to the burdens placed on businesses, gas leaf blower bans also have a more visceral cost.

Plastic water bottles, straws, shopping bags, styrofoam food containers & now gas-powered leaf blowers. The left sure loves banning things, what will they go after next?
