Man Sentenced For Killing In Prison The Man Who Raped His Underage Sister

It sounds like he was setup.

Why would prison officials put in the same cell a rapist & the brother of one of those rape victims.

Shane Goldsby, 26, has been sentenced to 25-years in prison after he beat to death his 70-year-old cellmate Robert Munger in June 2020.

Munger was reportedly serving a 43-year prison sentence for his child sex crimes.

Goldsby said he snapped after Munger began teasing him with details about the rape of his sister, “he kept... giving me details about what happened and what he did. About the photos and videos of him doing this stuff, and it was building up.”

Why was Goldsby put in the same cell as Munger. How many men would do the exact same thing if put in the situation that Goldsby was put in.

The Washington Post reports:

“Goldsby requested to move to a different cell, he said in an interview with KHQ last year, but no one would transfer him. He claimed that Munger then spoke to him in detail about how he had molested Goldsby’s younger sister. About seven months earlier, Munger had been sentenced to 43 years in prison for child molestation and possession of child pornography…
Hours later, Goldsby sneaked up behind Munger in the common area of the Airway Heights Corrections Center in Spokane County, knocked Munger down and stomped on his head repeatedly, according to a Washington State Patrol investigation into the incident. Munger died days later in the hospital.
Now, Goldsby has been sentenced to more than 24 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder. “I’m ashamed of my actions, I was put into a situation that I don’t wish on nobody,” Goldsby’s lawyer read on his behalf at a hearing last week. “I got a lot of fixing to do.”
The case, however, raised questions about whether the killing could have been prevented. Why, for instance, was Goldsby placed in the same cell as his sister’s rapist?”

Seriously, what did they think was going to happen.

Goldsby believes he was set-up and he’s right.

He says he tried at least twice to alert Airway Heights prison staff on his situation.

Goldsby says:

“when I showed up in that unit, I walked out of that pod, went to an office and said 'Hey, I need a new cellie.' And the correctional officer's in that office was like, 'What? No. We didn't call you.'... Then I went back to my cell. We got something in there called a button. You hit it if something’s going on. So, I hit that button too and nobody came on that mic at all. So, in my head, I'm not in my head at this point and time. I'm completely feeling like this is what they wanted to happen.”

The Washington Department of Corrections tells KHQ-TV that screeners had no knowledge about the two’s connection when they were placed together, following an internal investigation.

According to court documents, Goldsby attacked Munger from behind in the prison’s communal area and hit him in the face 14 times, then stomped on his head at least four times before walking away.

In court, Goldsby apologized to Munger’s family.

Goldsby had been serving time in prison for a joy ride in 2017 during which he stole a police vehicle and led law enforcement on a long chase.
