BlackLivesMatter statement basically regurgitated the talking points of Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, blaming the protests on the United States.
Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation, Inc.’s wrote that Cuba is being “punished by the U.S. government because the country has maintained its commitment to sovereignty and self-determination."
They went on to laughably claim that “Cuba has historically demonstrated solidarity with oppressed peoples of African descent, from protecting Black revolutionaries like Asata Shakur through granting her asylum, to supporting Black liberation struggles in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea Bissau and South Africa”.
Of course, they failed to mention how Cuban police are now rounding up and arresting those demonstrating.
One social media influencer was arrested during a live TV interview.
As Fox News points out:
"The true extent of the country’s crackdown is unclear due to reports of blocked internet access. The New York Times, citing Amnesty International, reported on Tuesday that at least 150 were detained. There were other reports of some protesters being unaccounted for."
