Appearing on CNN yesterday, Biden’s Health & Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra said that it is “absolutely the government’s business” to know the vaccination status of Americans.
He made the remarks in response to Republican criticism to Biden’s plan to send feds door-to-door to pressure citizens to get the vaccine.
Becerra dismissed Republican complaints, saying:
"perhaps we should point out that the federal government has spent trillions of dollars to try to keep Americans alive during this pandemic. So it is absolutely the government’s business. It is taxpayers’ business, if we have to continue to spend money to try to keep people from contracting Covid and helping reopen the economy.”
He even went as far as to push back against those expressing concern about the feds coming to their homes and banging on their door, saying “knocking on a door has never been against the law” and that Americans “don’t have to answer. But we hope you do.”
The comments went viral and Becerra tried to claim that Republicans were taking his comments “out of context”.
Then he tried to walk back his comments, saying that the “government has no database tracking who is vaccinated.”
Sure, they are not.
