Some 153 ‘hero’ frontline workers at Houston Methodist Hospital are reportedly out of work now over their refusal to get the COVID vaccine.
Those workers have either been fired or resigned.
Methodist CEO Marc Boom says all employees are either vaccinated or have granted an exemption.
In a released statement Boom says, “we respect the right of all to peacefully protest but now we must move forward and continue to focus on being one of the safest hospital systems in the country. All our employees have now met the requirements of the vaccine policy and I couldn't be prouder of them.”
Jennifer Bridges, the nurse who is the lead plaintiff in the suit against the hospital, says “I’m so happy and relieved. I don’t want any part of Methodist.”
Earlier this month, 178 employees in total were suspended for not complying with the hospital’s vaccination policy. Those suspended had two weeks to receive the vaccine, if they refused they would be terminated.
117 now former employees filed suit against the hospital however last week a federal judge dismissed the suit.
Attorney Jared Woodfill is representing the former employees and he’s vowed to file an appeal.
He says, “my clients’ resolve is only strengthened, and they want to fight this policy until the very end.”
