Yesterday afternoon, Chicago police announced that Yasmin Perez, 25, died from her injuries. She along with her husband, Gyovanny Arzuaga, 24, were shot around 9pm on Saturday night during a post-Puerto Rican People’s Parade celebration.
He was using his body as a human shield to protect his wife.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports:
“Police have said the couple were driving in the 3200 block of West Division when they were involved in a minor crash and ambushed.
Several people beat Perez and then shot her, Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said Monday. When Arzuaga came to her aid, he was shot by a second person “almost execution style,” Deenihan added.
Video shows the couple lying in the street next to their car as the attackers ran off."
Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said about the video “you see that second suspect clearly just holding a gun, shooting him in the head almost execution-style.”
The couple leaves two young children behind.
