A Denton County man has been sentenced to 12-years in prison for harboring his brother who spent around a decade on the FBI’s “10 Most Wanted” list.
In February, a federal jury in Fort Worth found Yassein Said, Yaser Said’s 59-year-old brother, guilty of conspiracy to conceal a person from arrest, concealing a person from arrest, and conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding.
Yassein Said helped his brother evade capture since New Year’s Day 2008. He was captured back in August of 2020.
Yaser Said is accused of murdering his teenage daughters, Amina and Sarah.
Investigators believe Yaser Said was angry that the girls were westernized. The death of the girls have been described as an “honor killing”. In the recorded 911 call, one of the girls is heard saying her father shot her.
The murdered girls mother and ex-wife of Yaser Said believe they were murdered because they were both dating non-Muslim boys.
Yassein Said’s co-conspirator, his 32-year-old nephew Islam Said, pleaded guilty to the same charges and was sentenced in April to 10 years in federal prison.
According to evidence presented at the trial, Yassein Said sheltered his brother from arrest in an attempt to subvert the administration of justice.
Acting U.S. Attorney Prerak Shah said, “Yassein Said prioritized the comfort of his brother, an alleged murder, over justice for his nieces, two innocent teenagers on the brink of adulthood. No sentence can bring Sarah and Amina back, but we are hopeful that seeing justice served brings a measure of comfort to those who loved these two young souls.”
