Finally some long overdue sanity from school administrators.
Last night, Humble ISD’s Board of Trustees voted to make face coverings optional for all elementary school students.
In addition, the district says:
“the updated protocols also make face coverings optional for participants at an outdoor event or activity. Outdoor events and activities include recess, outdoor PE, senior picnics and any other outdoor events or activities.”
Every student, teacher, staff member and visitor will still have to wear a mask or face shield over their nose and mouth when on school district property or at a district event wherever it is not feasible to maintain a distance of 6 feet from another person. This requirement does not include the following:
- Any elementary school student.
- Any person with a medical condition or disability that prevents wearing a mask.
- Any person while the person is consuming food or drink, or is seated in a dining area to eat or drink.
- Any person while the person is actively exercising or engaging in physical activity.
- Any spectator or participant at an outdoor event or activity (updated April 22, 2021).
- Any person while the person is giving a speech for a broadcast or to an audience.
- Any student while actively participating in an activity where it is impractical to wear a mask or face shield."
A Georgia mom is going viral after she grilled school board members for making young children wear masks and socially distance despite there being little evidence that kids are severely at risk of contracting COVID.
Courtney Ann Taylor slammed the Gwinnett County Board of Education members at a meeting on April 15, telling them that she’s heard the same talk for over a month about kids’ social and mental health.
Taylor tells the board:
"Every one of us knows that young children are not affected by this virus … And that’s a blessing. But as the adults what have we done with that blessing? We’ve shoved it to the side and we’ve said, ‘we don’t care. You’re still going to wear a mask on your face every day … You still can’t play together on the playground like normal children … We don’t care. We’re still going to force you to carry a burden that was never yours to carry.’ Shame on us."
