As the border crisis continues and the Biden administration searches for places to house the thousands of illegal immigrant youths, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is basically rolling out the welcome mat.
Speaking to CBS, Mayorkas says to the parents of migrants looking to try and make it to the US, “I hope they don't undertake that perilous journey, but if they do, we will not expel that young child. We will care for that young child and unite that young child with a responsible parent."
So he's basically reassuring parents that if they ship their kids over to the United States to enter the country illegally then the Biden administration will not only care for them but ensure that they won't be sent back.
There’s more than 15,000 illegal immigrant youth in federal custody and expect that number to continue growing.
"The U.S. government on Saturday was housing approximately 15,500 unaccompanied migrant minors, including 5,000 teenagers and children stranded in Border Patrol facilities not designed for long-term custody, according to government data reviewed by CBS News.
As of Saturday morning, more than 5,000 unaccompanied minors were being held in a Customs and Border Protection (CBP) tent holding facility in south Texas and other stations along the border with Mexico. According to the government records, unaccompanied children are spending an average of 136 hours in CBP custody, well beyond the 72-hour limit outlined in U.S. law."
ABC News’ Martha Raddatz spoke to an illegal immigrant who admitted that he came to the US because Biden was elected.
