NJ School District Settles With Teacher Over Editing Of Trump MAGA Shirt

A former New Jersey teacher who says she was ordered to edit a student’s MAGA t-shirt out of a yearbook photo will receive a $325,000 settlement from the district.

Susan Parsons, who served as the school’s yearbook advisor, says the principal’s secretary ordered her on behalf of the principal to edit out the “Make America Great Again” shirt back in 2017.

Even though she voted for Trump, she wanted to keep her job so agreed to do the edit.

She later sued the district, saying she was scapegoated and received death threats over the controversy.

The $350,000 settlement was approved by the school board as the district “made no admission of wrongdoing or liability, according to a copy of the agreement obtained through an open records request.”

NJ.com reports:

“The settlement agreement punctuates a controversy that infuriated many parents in Wall Township, where Trump won nearly 63% of the vote in 2016 and 58.5% in 2020.
Parsons will receive about $204,000, and the remainder of the settlement will cover attorneys fees, according to the agreement.
She previously received a $25,000 settlement from a lawsuit challenging a district media policy that she said forbid her from telling her side of the story without obtaining permission from the district. The school system made no admission or wrongdoing in that settlement, which was approved in 2019.”
