Texas DPS troopers say the man led them on a 45-mile chase after stealing the fire truck.
"According to the Austin Police Department, the fire truck was stolen near West MLK Jr Boulevard and Guadalupe Street in West Austin around midnight. DPS spotted the stolen fire truck and began a pursuit, according to APD.

The tires on the fire truck were damaged by spike strips, according to police.

Bryan Gray, a tow truck driver who witnessed the chase, tells KXAN-TV:
“There was a ton of debris that came off the truck. I’m talking oxygen tanks, I saw fire extinguishers, hoses. Before you knew it, there were 20-30 cruisers chasing behind him.”
