On Saturday, Mayor Sylvester Turner along with several other Democrats basically expressed their anger about too many white people getting COVID vaccines.
He says there is too much “disparity and inequity” in the distribution of the vaccine.
According to his office, “43% of vaccine recipients are Anglo, 21 percent Hispanic, 14 percent Asian, and 18 percent African American.”
Keep in mind according to the US Census Bureau, 2019 American Community Survey Houston is 38% Hispanic, 35% Anglo, 16.8% African American and 7.8% Asian.
Beginning this week, the Mayor’s office says the health department will focus on “underserved communities.”
"We are utilizing the limited supply we are getting to be more intentional and more directional," Mayor Turner said. '“For example, we have pulled away from the mass distribution sites which are good for numbers but not necessarily the best for equity.”
Democrat State Senator Boris Miles was alongside Turner, he says “communities of color" must be a point of emphasis for the vaccine.
The CongressWOMAN Sheila Jackson Lee also appeared alongside Turner. She wants FEMA and the federal government to take over vaccine distribution because she says “the question is not only racial equity, racial equality, but it is racial justice."
You mean the same FEMA that had to rely on the Cajun Navy to rescue people during Hurricane Harvey.
