Yesterday, Portland City Council rejected a proposal to defund the police by another $18 million in a 3-2 vote.
City Commissioner Dan Ryan was considered the swing vote that ultimately defeated the plan.
According to Oregon Public Broadcasting, Ryan said that “cutting an additional $18 million at a time when we have no viable alternative to fill the service gap left behind is not my idea of police reform.”
Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty blasted City Council for defeating the plan saying “we’ll continue to talk about Black lives, but we won’t actually do anything to make Black lives better. We’ll keep talking about transformation, but let’s talk about it first and about who didn’t come to the table.”
In response to Ryan vote for defeat the defund plan, Antifa/BLM showed up last night at his home in an effort to harass, intimidate & terrorize him.
The Oregonian reports that Ryan’s:
“... house was dark when protesters arrived around 9 p.m. Some people lit flares near his house and shattered some glass on the property. Other people threw objects at the house and smashed a large flower pot.
Dozens of state troopers and sheriff’s deputies soon arrived, declared the gathering unlawful and ordered people to leave. Officers pressed people north of Ryan’s house, and the crowd scattered into smaller groups. Police and a small group protesters faced off in a residential intersection for several minutes.”
Last week, these same goon showed up at Ryan home in an effort to pressure him to support the defund proposal.
