HPOU Calls Out HPD Chief For “Hijacking...Somber Moment” For Sgt. Brewster

The Houston Police Officers' Union sent out a memo to its members calling Chief Acevedo’s rant against guns outside the funeral home where fallen Sgt. Chris Brewster was taken, “ nothing short of offensive and inappropriate”.

The chief attacked McConnell, Cornyn and Cruz, saying “I don't want to see their little smug faces about how much they care about law enforcement when I'm burying a sergeant, because they don't want to p*** off the NRA.Make up your minds. Whose side are you on gun manufacturers, the gun lobby or the children are getting gunned down in this country every single day."

In the memo to members, HPOU’s executive board wrote “there is a time and place for every discussion, and this was neither the time or place. We are all grieving for Chris and the focus should be on him and his family and not on the Chief's agenda....It is very clear to anyone watching, the chief owes the entire Houston Police Department an apology for hijacking this somber moment.”
