The Tesla police car ran out of juice while chasing a suspect.
The officer in the electric patrol car tried to pull over an individual for a routine traffic stop. That person took off.
During the chase, the officer told dispatch, “just realized I am down to six miles of battery on the Tesla, so I may lose it here in a sec.”
The pursuit was ultimately called off because the suspect's driving deemed further pursuit unsafe.
A spokesman with the Fremont Police Department says that it remains unclear why the department’s Tesla wasn’t fully charged at the time of the pursuit.
Fremont Police are part of a six-month pilot program with Tesla electric cars to see how it integrates into the force.
