Creepy: Spider In South Texas Dines On Bat It Caught

From ABC 13:

We now know what nightmares are made of: huge spiders eating bats!
Annette Alaniz Guajardo sent ABC11 photos of the bizarre event that happened at her Poteet, Texas, home Wednesday.
She said she was on her way to work when she saw a bat trapped in the web of a black and yellow garden spider.

Matt Bertone, an Entomologist with the NCSU Plant Disease and Insect Clinic, says the Argiope aurantia (scientific name for the spider) are known to eat flies, bees, other insects and larger animals. He says “they have been known to catch birds and other larger animals in their webs and eat them.”
