The Sears store in Midtown, which opened in 1939, will close its doors this weekend.
In October, the company that oversees Rice University's endowment bought out the 28 remaining years on the store's lease and bought three nearby acres also owned by Sears. Rice is considering different ideas about what to do with the site.
Two other Sears stores, at Westwood and Baybrook Mall, were closed last year and more than 100 additional stores will close over the next few years.
The Midtown store's final day is Sunday.
