Houston Plans New Homeless Shelter

Houston transit officials are proceeding with a plan to turn part of a downtown bus depot into a homeless shelter.  At a meeting last night, members of the Metropolitan Transit Authority board approved the proposal for the depot at McKee and Buffalo Bayou.

Nearby residents and businesses strongly oppose the idea, which they said Metro seems to be rushing into, and expressed concerns about property value and crime.  but the Metro board will leave it up to City Council to work out the details of the plan, which could lead to lively debate.
