Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Travis County for hiring a third-party vendor to send out voter registration forms to individuals who have not requested them.

Last month, the Travis County Commissioners Court used taxpayer money to hire a third-party vendor, Civic Government Solutions, to use a program that identifies residents who were not registered to vote. The company is a subsidiary of a known partisan organization.

“Travis County has blatantly violated Texas law by paying partisan actors to conduct unlawful identification efforts to track down people who are not registered to vote,” said Attorney General Paxton. “Programs like this invite fraud and reduce public trust in our elections. We will stop them and any other county considering such programs.”

Recently, Paxton sued Bexar County over a program that would send mass mailout to unregistered individuals which created the possibility of it reaching ineligible voters. He also sent a letter to Harris County over concerns for a voter registration mailout resolution.
