POLL QUESTION: Should we stop changing the clock?

A bill to keep Texas on Daylight Saving Time is headed to the Senate, but the chance of it becoming reality is slim to none.

That's because federal law only allows states to adopt standard time.

"Changing our clocks twice a year is frustrating to many Texans," said state Rep. Will Metcalf, R-Conroe, who authored House Bill 1422.

And Metcalf believes Daylight Saving is the right time to stick with.

"It allows for maximum amount of daylight in the evenings, and I know countless others feel the same way."

If it clears the Senate and is signed by the governor, Texas would join 19 other states stuck in congressional limbo.

"The state of Texas would still need federal approval for this to occur," Metcalf acknowledged.

HB 1422 is among 18 pieces of legislation concerning time in Texas, some would allow voters to decide through a statewide referendum.
