The search for the body of Texas National Guard solider Bishop Evans continues.
While on duty along the Rio Grande near Eagle Pass Friday morning Bishop Evans hastily removed the heavy body armor he was wearing and dove into the river’s raging water to rescue two migrants who appeared to be drowning.
The 22-year-old artillery soldier from Arlington did not resurface.
The migrants did. The Texas Rangers, assigned as the lead agency in the search and investigation, say the two were drug traffickers now in custody.
A search for the missing soldier had begun Friday morning and has continued without let up since.
On Sunday, Governor Greg Abbott called Bishop Evans a hero.
