Heroic Colorado Deputy Sheriff Michael Gregorek jumped into action recently to rescue a large dog trapped in a burning SUV.
In a video released by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Gregorek confessed that his own dog was his only child, "So I would have done the same thing whether it be baby, human, dog, cat. A life is a life."
The dramatic video was captured on Gregorek’s bodycam and patrol car camera Jan. 22. The locked car is full of smoke, and dog’s owner is in a panic.
Gregorek smashes a side window, then the back window with a baton. As the dog, named Hank, comes to the back window, the owner tries to pull him out but is overwhelmed by the smoke. Gregorek then reaches in and, with lots of effort, pulls Hank free.
A veterinarian who lives in the neighborhood gave Hank an exam and reported that he appeared uninjured.
