Americans honor police as some continue calls for defunding

Police supporters in Springfield, Massachusetts, gathered on the Chestnut Street Bridge over Interstate 295 to honor fallen officers on National Police Weekend. Those taking part brought flags, signs and images of cops who have died in the line of duty.

Springfield Police Commissioner Cheryl Clapprood reports she is having staffing issues and that her department is losing good officers at a high rate.

Meanwhile, larger tributes were held in Washington, D.C., by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. One, a candlelit vigil at the National Mall, honored all the country’s fallen police officers.

The tributes come as many prominent figures have called for "defunding" law enforcement nationwide.
