Conservatives are left feeling empty again after the U.S. Supreme Court rules again to keep Obamacare in place. Justice Samuel Alito and Justice Neil Gorsuch dissented.
The session overall was seen as a victory for conservatives, but not on some of the more high-profile cases.
GianCarlo Canaparo, a legal fellow with The Heritage Foundation, says maybe the court missed on Obamacare by ruling on only the standing of the case rather than merit. However, he says Congress left justice no choice.
“When Congress amended Obamacare to zero out the mandate, but it left it in place, a judge who is being faithful to the law really couldn't have just struck down the whole act after that,” he says. “Congress made it pretty clear they thought the act could survive without the mandate.”
He says it is important to remember what conservatives stand for.
