Shane Fuhrman, mayor of Silverton, Colorado, told a trustees meeting last week that the Pledge of Allegiance would be skipped due to "direct and indirect threats."
One trustee challenged the ruling, then trustees recited the pledge anyway.
That prompted Fuhrman to say they were out of order.
Fuhrman said he made the decision based on inappropriate comments heard "in and out of public meetings and general divisiveness and issues created in our community."
