Even though the CDC says you don't have to mask up, psychologists have warned some people may never return to "normal” as COVID numbers drop and mandates are lifted. A recent piece in The Federalist labels them “pandemic junkies” – those who double-mask outdoors after being vaccinated.
“The past year has created a lot of germaphobes in our society and the scary thing is we're seeing it with children,” says Becky Blalock, founder of Unmuzzled Houston Resistance. “We've had parents and grandparents reporting their children come home from school and ask if they can hug them and they are very afraid to take off their masks.”
Blalock thinks the CDC's latest guidelines allowing fully vaccinated people to ditch the mask indoors will likely raise their anxiety.
