Texas bars and restaurants are praising Governor Greg Abbott’s decision to lift the state's mask mandate and all other COVID restrictions next week.
But not everyone is happy.
Both Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo and Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner called the decision a political distraction from last month's power grid failure, adding now is not the time to rollback COVID protocols.
“Let's not get distracted by this political action. Let's focus on the fact that those numbers are still very high,” Hidalgo said Tuesday afternoon.
