Is Coronavirus in your Christmas mail?

As Coronavirus numbers surge nationwide, many are taking a closer look at how the virus may be transmitted. And some may wonder about an infected person licking the envelope of a Christmas card they've received.

Well, relax. Well-documented research shows that the highest risk of transmission is through close contact with an infected person. Experts say it would be "extraordinarily unlikely" that you would contract coronavirus through a licked envelope.

The virus spreads primarily through respiratory droplets after someone coughs or sneezes. And although it's possible for the virus to live on surfaces for a short time, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it’s unlikely to spread through mail or packaging.

To be on the safe side, though, just throw away the envelope and thoroughly wash your hands.
