For months, we have been saying that you need to read the fine print when it comes to how Houston reports its COVID-19 numbers. What was reported yesterday by the city is a good example of why you should do that.
The city reported just over 400 new cases of the virus yesterday, but the headlines are saying that the city reported 19 new deaths. The city also put out a graph detailing those deaths.
If you look at it, there isn't one that actually took place in the month of August. With the exception of two, they all happened in July. One death actually took place in early May.
And if you look even closer, you will see that 18 of the 19 people who tragically passed away had other health issues going on.
Take a look at graphic below, which came from the city itself.
