Fryer Feature: Texas Numbers

For weeks now, we’ve been giving daily numbers on Covid cases reported and deaths attributed, whether they were deaths by Covid or with Covid.

The number of “Covid deaths” this morning stands at 651 in a Texas population of 29 million plus. I didn’t look up the number of deaths reported in Texas from other causes so far this year.

I did check what the Texas civilian work force numbers are; at the end of February about 14 million were in the Texas civilian work force. Yes, that doesn’t count government workers federal to local, or educators, or others paid by taxes.

But by the end of March alone the unemployment rate had jumped to 4.7%, meaning in a month, roughly 670,000 Texans had lost their civilian jobs. That number will be even greater with April unemployment numbers coming this week.

651 deaths in a Texas population of 29 million. 670,000 Texas jobs died in March alone for non-government employees. Maybe we should do reporting on that more frequently.
