Fryer Feature: Perspective, again

It was just two weeks ago that I was noting, as the COVID-19 pandemic was just flexing itself into America, that it was important to keep perspective, and not to panic as we faced an unknown. I don’t always have wisdom, but as most Texans, there is a strong sense of independence and the common sense beneath it.

My feeling was we all needed to observe personal responsibility of staying healthy, maintaining distances, cleanliness and sanitizing, being prepared with items and food we needed in our homes. I wrote on that Friday morning, March 13th always puts perspective in my life, because I was diagnosed with cancer on that date 18 years ago.

Perspective. I’m still here. And now this date of March 27 brings yet another perspective; my mother died on this date in 1997. She had survived a tough Kansas farm childhood, lost her mother at the age of 12, survived smallpox at 16, the Great Depression, WWII and every life change of the 20th Century.

Today I’m thinking of her, and how she would respond to all of this. I’m really glad I’ve had her example.

Perspective.
