It’s Houston urban history of the “cowboy” sort. Remember the oh-so- chi-chi penthouse apartment of Pam, the love interest of Bud (John Travolta) in “Urban Cowboy?”
That apartment was not a soundstage. It actually exists in Houston and is now on the market for a tidy sum. But what price nostalgia?
It caught my interest, courtesy of our resident real estate - know guy and editor John Labus, who included it in Houston’s Morning News, for the nostalgic among us.
I arrived in Houston TV in the year immediately following the Urban Cowboy craze; it permeated the very air, the music, Gilley’s, mechanical bull riding, and everything refineries and Pasadena. It was a fun overlay to the city we love. I always wondered where the high rise shots were made; turns out right downtown on Main Street, in an apartment building I’ve often entered on other stories. Who knew? Finally now I do.
