If you watched the end of the Daytona 500 last night, you probably saw the crash on the final lap involving Ryan Newman. It was the kind of crash that makes you do a double take.
The good news is that while Newman is in the hospital in serious condition, doctors say he does not have life threatening injuries.
"We had been waiting for information just like everyone else, so to hear some positive news tonight is a relief," said Mark Rushbrook, global director for Ford Performance Motorsports. "The entire Ford family is sending positive thoughts for his recovery, but our first thoughts remain with his family and his team."
Newman crossed the finish line on the roof of his car. He had been in the lead on the final lap. Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag.
