The death of longtime ABC News reporter and author Cokie Roberts brings a special sadness. She was a wonderful woman. We interacted frequently as we both covered politics for ABC or I interviewed her about her life. A Louisiana woman, Cokie was no stranger to the Bayou City of Houston either. And she always carried with her that particular warmth and charm and New Orleans easy-going attitude, no matter how sharp the political knives and discussion.
We shared our cancer stories when she was first diagnosed. That’s a sisterhood too. She simply had an incredible ability to connect with people, as a woman, a mother, a wife, a sister, a daughter, a friend old or new. She is sorely missed.
