FRYER FEATURE: THE OIL PATCH SHUFFLE

Call it the oil patch shuffle; the movement of headquarters and personnel when one company acquires another in this oil capital city of Houston. It’s happening right now with Oxy, officing in Greenway Plaza. That’s where Conoco used to be in the early 80’s before building that 62 acre campus in the ‘Energy Corridor” on the Katy Freeway. Now Conoco/Phillips, they moved across I-10 to “Energy Four” and sold the sprawling property to Oxy.

But now Oxy has acquired Anadarko, with its employees and digs in The Woodlands. What to do with this triangle of office points? For the moment, the Conoco/Phillips campus goes back on the market. But the future looks like a certain shuffle for not only the combined offices, but also the employees and their families. Keeps Houston real estate and roadways hoppin'.
