He’s a private citizen of Houston but his funeral is attended by almost one thousand people…including notables like the Mayor of Houston, executives from the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation, Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital and its Cancer and Hematology Centers, and Holocaust Museum Houston. Lester Smith and his surviving wife Sue contributed millions to all these institutions and many others.
That makes them very public, private citizens….a particular breed of Houstonians…who made and make significant contribution to the community and the quality and fabric of this city’s life. They were accomplished ballroom dancers, we will miss that. But as Lester wrote in his self-obituary….oh, how he danced through life.
