New Galveston County Maps Blocked By Texas Supreme Court

The Texas Supreme Court has blocked a redistricted Galveston County map from being used in the November midterm elections.

According to reporting from the Houston Chronicle, the court has ruled that Galveston can’t redraw their maps in the middle of an ongoing election cycle.

The opinion read in part: “Neither the Texas Constitution nor any statute authorizes the County to take the unusual and perhaps unprecedented step of choosing to conduct a general election using precinct lines that differ from those used in the corresponding primary election absent an overriding state or federal law obligating it to do so.”

The ruling is a result of a lawsuit filed by two county residents and Precinct 3 Constable Derreck Rose.
